Do i need to specify my current employment status?

Dear Members,

I will be applying for Tier 1 (General) extension in next week. I will be using earnings period of Apr 2011 to Mar 2012. During this period I was working as contractor through my own limited company and I am the sole share holder of my company. As per the UKBA rules my status will be self employed at that time and I will specify the same in the application. Currently I am working as a permanent employee, so do I have to state my current employment status as permanent in the cover letter or it does not matter?
