I beg to differ. I did my biometrics at the end of Feb and I got no documents back for 7 weeks. My MP wrote then direct to the Chief Executive at UKBA and I got my documents and new BRP card back within a week.
My MP already sent the letter to the UKBA about 15 days before still no reply from UKBA, i gonna sent another letter tomorrow to UKBA & MP....

I have still not received anything, nor have I heard back from my MP (even though the automated reply said she aims to respond within 10 working days). However, my MP is on the Shadow front bench, so she is busier than an ordinary back bencher. I am thinking of going to her surgery next week. Luckily I don't have any personal plans to go abroad till the autumn, but other people are having to cover my business trips at work.

However, I would like to point out that even the annoying automated message on the UKBA helpline says they will answer questions about applications that have been pending for six months. You can bet I will be calling and asking questions at the start of August!

:D UPDATE

So, write after posting that I hadn't heard back from my MP, I received a letter in the post telling me that she had already written to UKBA for me (a few days previously). Then (just like magic), I received a missed Special Delivery envelope the next day (and it was the number I was looking for, my prepaid return envelope). Today I picked up my package at the sorting office! :D Current married name passport, most recent maiden name passport and marriage certificate all returned. Now I just have to wait up to 7–10 working days (of course, this would be right before a four day bank holiday  ) and I'll have my replacement BRC!

Now just to change the rest of the stuff I need to change into my married name!

Best of luck to every one else. I do really recommend writing to your MP!

Your wait has finally ended. I have a feeling the application was processed as normal. MP's letter does not have an impact on the applications. My MP's caseworker spoke to UKBA , They informed him that they do not prioritize the applications under any circumstances. Why would a name change take more time that a normal visa application. Its nearly 2 months now.

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. Yes, MP's letter does make a difference, of course it depends how the MP structures his/her letter. On many occasions it has been proved that MP's letters have expediated applications. Even in my case after waiting 7 weeks without luck, I got all my things back within a week of them getting MP's letter. The UKBA even have their own MP hotline for MP's to enquire about applications which normal applicants can't even ask about their own applications. I've spoken to the MP hotline and whilst they can't tell me anything (since I'm not an MP), they said that they can give more detailed information to the MP. Now, if MP's did not have so much of an impact, why would UKBA have their own dedicated MP hotline?

You can find your MP by going to Parliament's Website:

http://findyourmp.parliament.uk/

Then go to the page for your MP on the same site, which will have their email address and post address. You can write to any MP at "MP's name, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA"
:)

I understand how you feel.I have tried everything possible (Email, telephone calls,Two letters from my MP). My MP's case worker has followed up using the hotline as well. The only reply they give is "65% of applications are decided withing 21 working days and 95% in 6 months). Every time i hear this reply, I feel so frustrated. I regret changing my name in the first place after going through all this :x

I submitted a BRP(RC) for a lost/stolen BRP two weeks ago and the fee has not been deducted from my account and I have not received an acknowledgment letter.

Is this standard? How long has it taken others to have the fee deducted, get the acknowledgment letter, get the biometric letter and get the replacement BRP?

I know others have posted about long waiting times but I am particularly interested in whether any of the long waiting times have been for stolen BRPs (as opposed to name changes) and how long it took to receive the acknowledgment letter after the application was delivered.

Post by jnaidu » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:10 am

Hello friends.I have finally received my passport today. Waiting for my BRP. Its been a long wait.

The turn around time has been 5 weeks after biometrics. This forum has been very helpful. I wish all the other member waiting for documents good luck. This application process is not very organised. You need to chase up by emails and MP letters to get a decision.

Is there also no point in emailing this email address? ukbapublicenquiries@ukba.gsi.gov.uk

Also, when you say to get in touch with the MP's caseworker does that mean the MP has his own caseworker contact at the UKBA or that there is someone specific at the MP's office we should contact?

Also, should I be looking out for an acknowledgment letter before the biometrics letter or just the biometrics letter?

Thanks!

The public enquiries email is on no use. The acknowledgment letter in my case was sent 3 weeks after the application date. The bio-metric enrollment letter is generally sent after acknowledgement letter. There have been many cases were people never received the acknowledgment letter, but got the bio metric letter. If your mode of payment is debit or credit card check your online statements to see if money has been deducted.

In regard to you second question. Every MP has a dedicated team of 4 or 5 people who act as point of contact with the public. These people work in the MP's constituency office and are refereed as MP's caseworkers. If you get in touch with them and explain your problem, They will forward the request to the MP. The MP and his or her caseworkers have a hotline to get in touch with a dedicated team in the UKBA (MP's Correspondence unit). They are the ones who deal and process the letters sent to the UKBA by the MP on your behalf. Hope it is clear now.

My application was delivered over two weeks ago and I have still received no letters and the payment has not been deducted from my account. At this rate, I am now concerned my passport will expire before the process is completed. Does anyone know what happens if a passport needs to be renewed during the 6 months the UKBA won't update an applicant of the status or whereabouts of an application? (Who would've have thought having a piece of plastic stolen would lead to such lengthy restrictions on one's ability to travel and provide id!)

I submitted my application almost 4 weeks ago now. I received an acknowledgement letter after 2 weeks but haven't heard anything back since.
