Citizenship for child born in UK for Parents with Tier 1 Ext

Post by abmnerang » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:39 pm

Hi,

What is the process for the baby born for parents with Tier 1 ext about to expire in 8 months time and applying for ILR.

Baby's birth is registered in local council and received birth certificate.

Is it better to register birth in Indian consulate and apply for indian passport and apply ILR along with the parents or is it better to just register birth at Indian consulate, and not apply Indian passport and not apply ILR along with parents and directly apply for citizen ship once parents receive ILR.

please advise.

thank you,

Its neither better nor worse.

The child will have an entitlement to be registered as British citizen once one of the parents gets ILR. Child does not need any kind of status in UK for this application.

But if you still want to go through the processes that you have mentioned, then its entirely your decision.

* do you want the child to be Indian or British
* will the child need to travel before an application for Registeration and British passport are made (can take upto 6 months).

Answering those questions will help you decide between the two.
