Naturalisation and name change

Post by ilrapplicantesp » Sat Jul 14, 2012 5:50 pm

Hello everyone,

I am about to apply for my naturalisation and i have a question regarding changing my name in the application form.

In my current passport -
my father's name is given as the surname
my family name is given as the middle name.

I would like to give my family name in the section 1.5, and give my fathers name as middle name in section 1.6 in form AN, with an explanation on page 13.

I would like to know if i am allowed to do this or if doing this would result in rejection of the application.

Thanks for your time and help.

I think you will really complicate matters by writing different names without a deed poll or marriage cert - which obviously doesnt apply in your case. surely as much as the names will only be swapped, its best to play safe and write exactly what is in your passport - exactly.

once you get your british passport you can then do a deed poll and apply for a new passport. I dont think a plain letter or explanation without any documentary proof of change of name will get you your british passport.

Do things right. play safe and wisely, mate.

Hi bebe,

Thanks for the reply and point well taken. Applied on Wednesday 18/07/2012, without complicating things as you suggested.
