Non-EEA Parent of EEA Minor/Child

Post by Danny1984 » Mon Jul 23, 2012 7:14 pm

All, have a bit of a situation to explain which hopefully will make it easier to understand:

I live in the UK (have been here for 5 yrs, working), my dad is an EEA national and my mum is NON-EEA, I have a little sister (10 yrs old) who since my dad is an EEA national has obtained an EEA passport. Now my mum wants to travel to the UK to stay with me for a year and my little sister would go to school here. We are applying via the Non-EEA Parent route, I was wondering:

- How much funds are required to prove self-sufficency (she is intending to stay for 1 year to begin with but I was told the visa is for 5 years either way)? (she has access to about 30K GBP.)

- How can I obtain Private Medical Cover for them while they are not even in the UK (which is a requirement for this type of Visa)? Can they just sign up from there via a UK company and give my address?

- Do both of them need the comprehensive cover or just the minor (my sister)?

- Also they've paid about 500 USD for this application to the British Embassy in Ank, Turkey, is this normal? I read somewhere it was free?

Sorry for all this but your help is much appreciated, I'm sure others will benefit from this info too :)

Cheers,
Dan

Danny why did your mum not apply for EEA family permit, which is free of Charge. Where is your father, is he in the UK at present, exercising treaty right.

Even if your dad is not in the UK exercising treaty right, your mum can still qualify for EEA family permit, with the funds you mentioned as the primary carer of your sister. You will only need to get CSI, which is in actual fact not necessary until after 3 months residence in the UK. The only condition is that your mum is accompanying your sister and there is evidence she will have enough fund to maintain her and herself.

What exactly did you mom apply for in Turkey? Has it been issued?

And as asked previous, where exactly is your dad?

Many thanks for your reply guys :)

My dad works in Kuwait (has never lived in the UK just comes over for visits, now rarely), my mum is from Iran and since the British Embassy in Iran is closed, she’s had to apply online (via Visa4UK); she paid for the application online and now has to go to Turkey to submit documents (nothing has been issued yet). She applied for Parent/Primary Carer of EEA Child (listed on Visa4UK).

The only trouble with EEA Family route is that even though my mum and dad are still married, they are not as close anymore, so I’m not sure if she would want to apply via him. But could you please tell me which route would be easier?

Also would she need to give her original passport to the embassy while the application is being processed (rendering her unable to leave Turkey, since she has no passport?).

Thanks again :)

If you have specific questions which have not been answered, best to explicitly re-ask them

Sorry, just wanted to know:

How to obtain the health cover which is a requirement for the non-eea parent of eea minor (can they use a UK company and provide my address)?

Is the original passport taken away until a decision is made (will she be without a passport for as long as the decision takes? 1 or 2 months?)

Thanks
