Wife on her independent VISA

Hi,
My wife has got her independent Tier1 VISA from India and entered UK on the same VISA on 5th Feb 2010 and planning to extend her Tier1 this year.
I will be eligible for British Citizenship in 8 months time, (assuming that I get BC next year) can my wife apply for citizenship after completing her 3 years in UK, in the category - spouse of British citizen?

Please let me know if more details are needed.

Nobody can apply for BC unless and until that person has ILR or PR (and the relevant residence requirement).
