gf coming to the UK

Post by fgsch » Thu Jan 04, 2007 4:50 am

Hi,

I'm currently under a work permit visa for 5 years (limited leave to remain). My girlfriend is coming to the UK and we thought about getting married, but we've not decided anything yet. As she's colombian she needs a visa for visiting UK, and she's appliying for a visitor visa as we have no ways to demostrate a civil partnership atm.
Could we get married here, her with her visitor visa and myself with a limited leave to remain, and switch her visa to dependant?
Thanks,

f.-

No, it is not possible to the holder of a mere V V to get married in the UK. But there is nothing to stop the two of you getting married outside the UK, and after such a marriage she could apply for the sort of dependant visa you mention.

Can you fly to Columbia and get married there?
