Schengen visa for doing business training

Post by seanjoe » Fri Jan 05, 2007 9:11 pm

Hi there, I'm new here and hope someone can help. My company has secured quite a few contracts in Europe mainly Portugal at this stage, but will get more around Europe later on.
My dilemna is knowing how soon to apply for a schengen visa, as i'm not even sure which country i'll have to go to first. furthermore, my company seems to be very reluctant to put their client company's name as a sponsor for my schengen visa. i don't know why.
anyway, i'm sure i'll have to go to europe quite a few times, and heard that i will only get single entry. is it possible to get a multiple entry in the first instance if we can show that we are going to need to go to the client company quite regulary to conduct training.
Also if i get a schengen multiple for (say portugal), can i use that multiple entry visa for other EU countries (within the specified validity period).
Hope you can help.

Sean, i've read in your other posts that you are a New Zealand citizen. New Zealand citizens do not require Schengen visas to enter the Schengen area for tourist and business trips so you've got nothing to worry about!

Simply to fly to your destination with your Kiwi passport and that's it! No visa required.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Is ur wife planning to work in europe too? If not she can apply for shengen visa in her own right, not sponsored by ur company. If for business than I guess she'd need a business visa or Work Permit for each individual country and if one of them is Germany, good bloody luck cos we just waited four months for one....

Sounds like a Schengen business visa is what she needs. Have a look on the schengen web site - it's the same form just tick the appropraite boxes for business. I dunno if it's any quick but if she's on business it shouldn't be a tourist visa.

Actually I dunno if she can actually work on a business visa, since such visas are to 'do business' and are not work permits otherwise why have work permits....

I could be and probably am wrong so wait for others and take professional advice.

I that case mate I'd err on the side of her needing work permits for each country. I'm no expert tho! I'd consider a business visa to used for such things as meetings abroad, talking to customers, pressing the flesh etc.

If she's delivering training courses then it's a bona fide job to me.
