ILR long residence

Post by Damanisshallo » Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:13 pm

Hello All,

I will complete my 10 yrs ever since I landed at Heathrow for the first time on 31 October 2012. All my visas were applied in-time apart from the one in 2007.

My then visa was due to expire on 30/06/2007 which was a Saturday and due to the Postal Strike most of the Post offices in my area were closed. I posted my application on 02/07/2007 Monday. However there was another reason why I could not apply even before 30/06/2007. My HOD was in the US attending a seminar and the deputy in-charge refused to sign my attendance application saying he wasn't sure about my attendance in other lectures (Silly but true).

I've got my SAR pack and no-where is it mentioned that my application was applied late. There is no mention of a gap either.

My query is, when is the best time for me to apply for ILR? Shall I wait until 31/10/2012 is past or shall i apply somewhere in the 2nd week of October considering the 28 days rule.

What difference would it make If I apply after 31/10/2012 (Only curious coz one of my mate has asked me to do so as advised by his solicitor in his case, though he had a gap of 9 days)

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Many Thanks

It might be helpful to include some news-clips from the following links to corroborate your claim on strike date,

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6227916.stm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Royal ... l_disputes

Also, download and read the 'Long Residence Guidance' from :

Read page 14 for clarification on '28 day' policy that may be applicable to your case.

Good luck

I've already done my homework on this and infact I've got a letter addressed to me stating "during that week the mail centers were remained closed" on a headed paper from Royal Mail. I've also got printouts from BBC and other trusted sites on these dates (Including the one you've mentioned)

I am still struggling to figure out why I should avoid applying before 31/10/2012. Does that by anyway means I'll have a strong point if i apply after completing whole 10 yrs and the amount of gap i had (which is 1 day in my case). Would that really matters?

The only way to 'remove' the 1 day problem you are facing is if you begin your 10 year count from 2007, which you would not do.

Otherwise, it would be ok to apply during the 28 days (or after) at the point of your 10 yr anniversary.

Hello All,

One of the conditions to grant ILR is Strong family connections within the UK.

What does this exactly mean?
As, no where in the application (SET(O)) does it asks for any information related to the family members.

Would it be a good idea to submit the payslips and bank statements or would it do any harm?

I'd be grateful if someone can shed some light on this.

Many Thanks
