German WP in-country?

Anyone any experience of renewing a WP/RP in Germany for a visa-national?

After our four and half months bureau-battle for the current one we are now battening down the hatches and preparing for another rough ride.

Base facts: UK Student Visa holder till Oct 08, on uni work placement this academic year. Currently in Germany on WP/RP which expires on the last day of the placement, 28th Feb 2007. New placement starts 1st March 2007 and we will very shortly have all the paperwork in our grubby little hands.

I'm guessing we can extend/get a new WP in-country? Is it a relately easy process if our papers are in order?
