Italian Visa with Wrong Passport Number

Post by mcjicia2 » Tue Sep 18, 2012 5:40 pm

I was issued an Italian visa on the 14 Aug 2012. However, passport number on the visa page is wrong, instead they put the booklet number which is different for some countries (Pakistan, Columbia and a few more).

The VF Global service through which I applied for the visa is unable to help and are not willing to provide me with any contact information for the Italian consulate in London. I have to travel this coming weekend (only 3 days left). I am not sure what to do.

I know that the booklet number will not suffice as I have already checked with the Italian consulate in Edinburgh (who clearly say that I will not be allowed entry to Italy as this should be exactly the Passport number). Also all my previous Schengen visas show the correct Passport number and not the booklet number.

I don't mind going down to London for a day trip to get new visas issued but I how do I even get in touch with the Visa section staff they have no number on which I can talk and explain the situation. Not even sure if I have to drag my wife and 4 year old daughter all the way down to London just for this as well.

Desperate, any help would be much appreciated. I have already paid for Hotel, tickets, Insurance for myself and all my family, which was a visa requirement . Between all visas issued to my family have same mistake.

You've paid for a service (VFS), there is a mistake and they are unwilling to help. Complain.

Where does the Edinburgh consulate come into the story? If you've made contact with them and received advice, why not ask them to help rectify matters.

The only telephone number related to Italian consulate which does not go directly to an automated message is the one for the consulate in Edinburgh, that's why I called and checked with them. Unfortunately they cant change or reissue the visa as they don't deal with mainland applications.

Yes VSGlobal is a pathetic service which, it is my mistake to go through them in the first place, should have gone directly to London. This is what I would now recommend to everyone.

Ok, but sometimes embassies force one to do so. There must be a way to reach them.

What part of the UK are you in (rough area if you don't want to be too specific)?

Ok, suggest you retry the Edinburgh consulate and ask them if you can get in touch with someone who will help. Stress that VFS refused to help.
