does a non EU Stamp 4 holder need a visa to enter UK ?

Post by bazzare » Mon Oct 29, 2012 12:46 pm

does anybody know what are the rules for a non EU stamp 4 holder regarding entering UK for a visit and possibly to live and work long term.
?

Do we need to go to UK embassy in Dublin and apply for a visa, or is this not required ? the situation as regards travelling in the common travel area seems quite confusing.

Do the UK border authorities recognize an Irish stamp 4 as being sufficient. If not what else is required.

its possible that I may be transferred to London next year so whats the situation for my wife as a non EU stamp 4 holder to join me and possibly have the right to live and work in the UK also ?

Is it a relatively simple procedure for an Irish citizen and their non EU spouse to get the right to stay in the UK long term ? what exactly is required ?

Do the same draconian rules ( such as needing to have a certain minimum salary or have significant savings ) that have recent been applied to the non EU spouses of UK citizens also apply to Irish citizens ?

Is it the case that under EU law that we get an automatic right to live in the UK , I would like to hear from anybody who has been through this process.

I think your spouse will need a visa to get to the UK (I am assuming your wife is a visa-required national) from what other people have commented, there is no fee or it is waived.
Your best bet is to move and exercise your EU Treaty Rights in another country, be it the UK or mainland Europe.
