Question regarding change of visa status- please help

Hi,
I am on a student dependant visa till oct 2007 and got my HSMP approval, but am not eligible to change my visa status from UK.
For my next job, I need to show them that I have a visa which allows me to work in UK covering a period from Aug07-Aug08 ( be it student dependant/ HSMP)
It is really difficult for me to go to India now to have my HSMP done as I do not have any more leave left in my current job.
My options are:
1. Extend my wifes student visa/my dependant visa ( she has already got extension letter from University- but is it too early to apply as the student visa is valid till Oct 07)
2. Get my HSMP by posting my materials to an agent in India for EC. For EC the applicant does not need an interview ( not that I know of). The only point is, the visa officer might figure out that I am still in UK by looking at my immigration stamp under student dependant visa. I do not know if it is possible to make a postla application for EC from UK?
Please advise me what to do? I am stuck!!

How are you going to validate your EC since you are going to apply for EC from India without leaving the UK???

If you do not have any holidays left, then go for unpaid leave...
