Passport/Visa expiry

Hi all,

My US passport expires in March but my visa expires in February for the UK Tier 1.

Do I apply for a passport first and panic that i will be here illegally after February or do I do my visa first and hope they issue the visa before the passport expires.

ANY help gratefully received!!

renew passport first, didnt get the panicky part though :?
