What is your immigration status?
Jobcentre doesn't do all of the benefits, there are different places to apply for different benefits.
What benefits did you want to claim?
Char (CR001 not Casa)

You have been misinformed, or have misunderstood what was said to you. Some benefits are indeed contribution-based, but many are not, including the Child Benefit that you mention.

To make it easier to answer your question please give some information, such as your UK immigration status, and also how long you have been in the UK.

As you now have ILR, you are entitled to claim whatever benefits your circumstances dictate that you are entitled to.

That includes income-based benefits, not just contribution-based ones.

go on this website and input your details as honestly as you can and it will tell you what benefits you may be potentially eligible for.
