Can one lose British Citizenship?...

Post by Chess » Tue Aug 24, 2004 1:56 pm

Can one lose BC apart from say...... having been involved in what is classed as issues that would affect the safety of the UK??

For you guyz out there with British PPt's ..is it shown in the ppt whether citizenship was obtained by birth, registration, marriage, naturalisation etc?)
Where there is a will there is a way.

I can think of two:

1. Obtaining BC by concealment of a material fact

2. Obtaining BC by misrepresentation i.e. you are not who you claim to be.

Passport shows place of birth so if not UK then by default you got BC via descent or naturalisation. It does not show how BC acquired - it only declares you to be a BC (applies only to maroon EU/ EC Format passports). Previous hardback/blue passports state 'Citizen of UK and Colonies'.

You can also lose your citizenship in another way. If in the first 5 or 6 years after someone receives citizenship, if he/she is convicted of a criminal offence and consequently gets a jail sentence lasting an YEAR OR MORE, then he/she can be stripped of his/her citizenship.
