New Zealander joining the British Army (Citizenship question

Post by RoyalPatriot » Tue Feb 19, 2013 9:55 am

Hello guys, I'm new to this forum and need some information about the immigration process. I have been in touch with the British Army careers adviser and they have deemed me as eligible to enlist in the Infantry. (I was wondering since I have a grandfather who was born the UK and is a British citizen, and a mother that holds a British passport) if I would be able to obtain a British passport. And if I hold a British passport and wish to live and work in the UK will I need some kind of visa or will I not require one if I hold a passport?

Thanks guys.

to see if you automatically qualify for British citizenship. For example, if your mother or your grandparent were working for the crown service?

With respect, I think the young man is sufficiently a newbie that he is having difficulty framing his question, and citizenship confuses the issue.
Let me see if I understand what you are asking.
(1) Do you qualify for UK citizenship? - this has been answered.
(2) Is there a residency or visa process, and what process, and what type, for a second generation New Zealander who has been accepted as a recruit into the UK Army?
(3) Will serving in Her Majesty's Army of itself qualify him for citizenship in some way?

My apologies if I have not been helpful, but the OP strikes me as a bit young and bewildered and my attempt to help him frame his questions is sincere.

BUMP

Dear OP, I'm sorry you haven't been getting any more responses.

If I guessed right you might add a reply to this thread, and perhaps the moderators will move the thread to a more appropriate (sub)forum.

On the other hand, if you now have the answers you need then good - and good luck in your basic training in the Army!
