Can a Tier-4 student switch from NQF lvl 7 course to Lvl 6

Post by amajid » Mon Feb 25, 2013 10:27 pm

Hi Forum,

I intend to study towards CFA, which Naric rates as NQF level 7.
However they also rate each level as:
Level 1 : NQL level 5
Level 2 : NQF level 6
Level 3 : NQL Level 7

I can study an NQF level 7 course for a maximum of 3 years and because I have already done my Masters for 1.5 years, I can only undertake studies for another 1.5 years in a level 7 course.
Now since, for CFA, first 2 levels are less than level 7 I could study a course falling under these levels for another 3 years.
My question is : If I undertake CFA will level 1 will it be considered as a level 5 course by UKBA and if yes, am I allowed to switch from a higher nqf level 7 to lower nqf level 5 (or 6) ?

I will appreciate you feedback on this.

Many Thanks,
AMajid

as the CAS will be issued for the course as a whole, e.g. ACCA first 8 papers is rated at NQF level 5, but if a student booked full 14 papers (rated at level 7) and get a CAS to cover the whole course, the whole course is counted towards the 5 year limit, disregarding that they will be studying level 5 for at least a year initially.

in answer to your question, the UKBA will consider your course as level 7 and for progression purposes, they won't allow you to drop levels.

By the way, why do you think you can only study a maximum of 3 years at level 7?
