MN1-can my friend's daughter join him in UK

Post by emilyneng » Sun Mar 03, 2013 4:20 pm

My friend was granted ILR and now is a British, how his 15 years old daughter(stayed abroad) join him in the uk? can she comes and naturalise straight away and obtained a British passport? or she needs to obtain entry clearance and settle here before she can obtain British passport?

If she was not born in the UK, then she needs to apply for a settlement visa and spend some time in the UK first.

No. And the settlement visa stage may not be so straightforward if the father does not have and has had sole responsibility for a considerable period. Where is the mother?

the mother is abroad with the child now, father is settled in UK and naturalised as a British. father supports the child and the mum from abroad.

is that mean the child needs to come here with an entry clearance to join the father and stays in the UK for sometimes.

when will she is be eligible for settlement?

Both mum and child may apply for settlement visas. It may be difficult for child to apply alone.

The child will not be granted a settlement visa without the mother also applying. Is that what is intended?
