Forgot to register with police

Post by square189 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 5:12 pm

Hello,

I came to the UK in 2009 on a student visa, and I wasnt required to register with the police. In fact, I went to the police station 3 times to confirm that I dont need to register. In 2011 I got applied for a Tier1 psw and I got it. It is mentioned on the back of the biometric card that I need to register with the police, but I didnt notice that before now.

More than a month ago I have applied for a Tier2 visa, and I have completed my biometrics enrolment. Today, I have received an email saying that they require my Police Registration Certificate to consider my application. What can I do now? To register with my local police, I would need my passport which I dont have.

please help. thank you.

What nationality are you?

Do you have a drivers licence?

Go to police station and ask what your options are explain them the whole scenario. They will guide you

Hi Gagan,

I am Egyptian. I do have a provisional driving license. Is it possible to request the ukba to send me back the passport for 1 week to register with the police, and send them back the police registration certificate and the passport?

Thank you.

They won't do that, for that you will have to withdraw your whole application and lose the fee.

Is there any workaround for my case? If I withdraw my application, can I reapply again from the UK, though my Tier1 psw visa has expired in Jan?

Thanks.

I have been to a local police station tonight. The person in charge told me to call/visit another branch tomorrow. He said they usually stamp the passport, so I am not sure what will they say tomorrow.

That's correct, they normally do stamp the passport.

See what they say tomorrow and explain then your whole scenario.

Thanks, I will check with them. If they required my passport, will I have any options?

Hello Manci,

Does that mean I can get back my passport to register with the police, and then resubmit my application from the UK? Though my tier1 psw visa has expired in Jan 2013.

Hello Vinny,

The gherson report seems to be a bit old, and the pdf posted by Manci seems to be more recent. Do they still refuse applicants because they failed to register?

The UKBA document should represent current policy. You should be okay.

The Gherson report predates the current policy. It may have been applicable to previous polices. Sorry about that!

although your visa expired in Jan 2013 you made a valid application otherise UKBA wouldn't have asked for the police reg. certificate. You have section 3C leave at present and don't have to leave the UK.

Suggest you reply to UKBA's email, apologise for the omission to register with the police and request your passport back so that you can do so now. Once you get your passport back register with the police and return your passport to UKBA who will then decide youir application
