benefits claims query

Post by ilrdep » Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:32 am

I am working and having income more than £40,000 but my wife is not working and does not earn any income.
We are currently claiming only CHild benefit.

Are there any other benefits my wife can claim?

your help is appriciated.

Has she previously worked in the UK? Is she currently seeking work? If not is she unable to work due to illness/disability?

In that case there are no other benefits she can claim.

I am also in same situation as ilrdep except only one thing that my wife has worked in uk for 6 months(when she was Tier1 dependent) and now looking for work, Can she claim jobseeker allowance?

There are two types of jobseekers allowance(jsa) contributory and income tested, the latter will be reduced by your income, your wife could claim contributions based which is not reduced by your income if she met the contributions (NI) in the two years before a claim for jsa is made. This seems unlikely if she only worked 6 months. Contributions based JSA is paid for 6 months, income based is indefinite. You can make a claim as nothing is lost providing she is not subject to immigration control.

Is your wife British or has ilr I.e. not subject to immigration control? Do you have parents or grandparents who claim disability either DLA or Attendance Allowance?
