Family Visitor Visa Vs General Visit Visa

Post by dreamer645 » Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:00 pm

Hi,

Just wanted to confirm the changes as was pointed to my parents this afternoon at VFS in Mumbai.

They were planning to apply for a visitor visa as an "Family Visitor" as per attached link as i am on Tier 1 - General.

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... uirements/

But they were told to re-fill form and apply as "General Visitor", which i am doing now.

Problem is i can't find this requirement on UKBA website. Anyone has link which would clarify this?

Thanks
Dinj

Which requirement is it that you are looking for? I know the rules for sponsoring family visitors changed this year to state that the family member you are visiting must be settled in the UK (i.e. not subject to immigration control) in order for them to sponsor you as a family visitor.

Therefore anyone who does not have ILR, would need to sponsor their family member as a general visitor instead.

See Page 3 under the following link:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... sitors.pdf

Family Visitor

The family members you are visiting must be permanently settled or have asylum/humanitarian protection status in the UK. They must also be related to you in one of the following ways:
- Spouse, civil partner, father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister;
- Grandfather, grandmother, grandson or granddaughter;
- Spouse or civil partner’s father, mother, brother or sister;
- Son or daughter’s spouse or civil partner;
- Stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother or stepsister; or
- Unmarried partner where the couple have been in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least the two years before the day the application is made and the relationship is genuine and subsisting
If you are not related to the person you are visiting in one of the specified ways listed above or if they are not permanently settled or have asylum/humanitarian protection in the UK, then you should apply as a general visitor and complete VAF1A.

Hi dreamer645/all,

Just to confirm.

My wifes mother is visiting her daughter in the UK. The visa status of my wife is "Tier1 General dependant" (with full time employment). So I guess she would not be termed as "permanently settled" right?

and she would need to fill in a VAF1A (General visitor) form.. correct?

my mother-in-law just got her family visit visa refused and lost INR 7500.I am under tier 1 general and last year i had sponsored my parents under family visit visa.So from memory,i straigh taway applied for the same category for my MIL,without realising that it has been changed now.
Had I read this forum before,i wouldnt have lost the money.
Why do they keep changing rules!
Now I have to go through the whole hassle of reapplying.....very frustrating!!!
Primarily because shortage of time....wife due in 2 months!

Hi

I am currently looking on ILR and I am looking to apply a visitor visa for my parents, who already have been to uk 2 times on general visitor visa.

I understand they can now apply family visa, as I am on ILR now.

Is there any specific advantages on family visitor visa vs General Visitor visa?

please list any benefits of family visitor visa?

Found some additional information regarding family visitor visa which suggests that right of appeal is no longer available - https://www.gov.uk/government/news/righ ... -abolished
