Hello...i am u.s citizen.....my great grandfather and grandmother both were born in ireland...i have read so many different sites on how to get irish citizenship from family members....would i qualify?

Yes, contacting the Irish embassy/consulate there in the U.S will be your first and best step.

If one of your grandparents is an Irish citizen but none of your parents was born in Ireland, you may become an Irish citizen. You will need to have your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.

This is your strongest link............... Citizenship by descent goes upto grand parents.

Your grandmother was born in Ireland. That makes you an Irish citizen. You need her birth cert, the birth cert of her child (your parent) and your own birth cert. Get all three certs (original, not copies) and register on the Foreign Births Register. Once you have successfully done this you can apply for an Irish passport.

If you have children already they are not Irish citizens.

If you have children after you register on the Foreign Births Register, they can get citizenship either by being born in Ireland (automatic citizenship as they would be the child of a citizen) or by being born elsewhere and registered in the Foreign Births Register.
