Returning BRP back to UKBA

I recently received my BRP for the next three years. However, i am resigning my job in UK and leaving to the US. How do I return my BRP? what are the formalities that i should do?

why do you want to return your BRP ? its a visa.

You haven't mentioned which immigration category your current LTR has been granted under. But technically there is no specific requirement for you to hand your BRP over, before you leave.

If you are under a employer sponsored immigration category (T2), your employer would independently inform the UKBA and terminate your LTR. This would terminate the leave granted on your BRP.

If however, you are under a non-sponsored immigration category (T1), then there is nothing from stopping you from keeping that BRP & the right to return to work in the UK at a later date within its validity period. You are not required to hand over the BRP before you leave the UK.
