My research on entrepreneur visa and council registration

Post by tanvir1985th » Sun May 05, 2013 12:23 pm

I have been following this blog for last few days and have been really helped by the postings of those who have applied for entrepreneur visas and faced interviews. So I thought this is the time to give something back to them. I faced a question in the interview and thats about who else live with me. in fact whoever lives with me he is not council registered neither me. this point later on struck my head when I heard a story of somebody got deported because of not being registered with council and not paying correct council tax( taken discount by not showing him). I have also researched that will breach "good character" requirement when you apply for ILR and naturalisation. But dont go that far, even your normal visa can be refused if they find you have been doing this. So my suggestion do take immediate action if you are not council registered. THX

I mean normal residence registration. if u have a business at home that doesnt have to be registered with council coz you are not solely using the house for business. If you use the whole house for business not for living then it will be regarded as a business premises and business rates is applicable. Furthermore in your naturalisation they ask for past 5 years address in which they will check if you were registered. if they find you were not then you are in trouble. for any visa application this can be a general ground for refusal. THx

No bro you are wrong. council registration doesnt have anything to do with tenancy agreement. as long as you are there u must be registered.

What about when you rent a room and the landlord lives with you (when the council tax is included in your rent that the landlord pays for everyone)?

if the landlord lives with u then its his responsibility to pay the council tax but u have to be registered which is your responsibility

Hi tanvir

I think there is a room coz council always as about letting contract when u start living so without letting contract they not accepting any thing
According to law council claim council tax from the person who got legal contract with the landlosame as with utility bills the person who got utility bill on his name only be responsible for that

So there cud be more loops but I agree that the rule mentioned in policy guidance is that if u r obliged by law(lease was on ur name) then payment must be done

Even after 5 years when you realise it is compulsory, you could always write to the council and say you were unaware of the registeration and offer to pay the amount due.
