Confused with the Border Agency website - naturalisation

Post by ed209 » Wed May 15, 2013 11:51 am

Hello,

I'm just a bit confused as to whether I need to take the Life in the UK test before applying for naturalisation. I currently have ILR and am married to a British passport holder.

Under standard requirement it links to the test information and procedure for the Life in the UK test, but under the spousal page it doesn't.

So do I need to take the test as a spouse?
Standard requirements for naturalisation
Naturalisation

This page provides details of the requirements you must meet before we can naturalise you as a British citizen. If you are married to or a civil partner of a British citizen, the requirements you need to meet are different; you should read the Spouses and civil partners page for more details.

There are seven requirements you need to meet before you apply:

You must be aged 18 or over.
You must be of sound mind.
You must intend to continue living in the UK, or to continue in Crown service, the service of an international organisation of which the UK is a member, or the service of a company or association established in the UK.You must be able to communicate in English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic to an acceptable degree.
You must have sufficient knowledge of life in the UK. <- this is a link
You must be of good character.
You must meet the residential requirements (see below).

This page provides details of the requirements you need to meet for us to naturalise you as a British citizen. The information on this page is only relevant if you are married to or the civil partner of a British citizen; you should read the page on standard requirements for naturalisation if this does not apply to you.

You should read the information on this page before you make an application for naturalisation. You will need to pay a fee when you make your application. If you make an application for naturalisation and it is unsuccessful because you are not eligible for naturalisation, we will not refund your fee.

If you meet the requirements for naturalisation you should go to the applying for naturalisation as a British citizen section for details on how to apply.

you are aged 18 or over; and
you are of sound mind; and
you can communicate in English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic to an acceptable degree; and
you have sufficient knowledge of life in the United Kingdom; <- this isn't and
you are of good character; and
you are the husband, wife or civil partner of a British citizen; and
you meet the residential requirements; or
your husband, wife or civil partner is in Crown or designated service outside the United Kingdom.
Thank you

You do. However if you passed the test for ILR, you don't need to take it again.

Okay thanks for that. I have not completed the test previously. So this is my first step then, booking the test.

Thanks Jambo
