Defective hyperlinks

Post by Amber » Tue May 21, 2013 4:00 pm

Hi how does one amend a hyperlink so that the entire url is clickable? For example, the link below is not clickable (the entire link) as the (m) is in place

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... et(m)/scs/

Unfortunately, I wasn't trying to link the user to the set(m) form. Rather I was trying to direct them to the SCS, the link as I provided in my first post fails to work as it contains (m). How do we resolve this?

settlement checking service

instead of directly pasting the link, you can use hyperlinked text as above

When I use the URL button it didn't work for me.

What exactly did you do?

I think it's probably an issue with your browser setting cause if i just copy and paste the URL, i am getting hyperlinked version (the ( ) have been replaced by % )

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... 8m%29/scs/

ps: i am using firefox

Well I tried on my Chrome explorer too and was confronted with the same issue, the URL containing (m) and causing the hyperlink to become defective. Any suggestions?

Change
"(" to "%28" and
")" to "%29"?

"[" to "%5B"
"]" to "%5D"

Thanks Vinny, I was hoping for an automated way. I suppose I'll have to manually change them or change my browser.

The way I deal this this issue is to use a service such as tinyurl.com or url.ie and come up with a short url. Then I post that short url into the posting I am making on this board.

For example instead of posting a defective link such as :-

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... et(m)/scs/

-: I would post :-

http://url.ie/hhg6

-: (which I have just obtained from the url.ie website) which you will see actually gets to where you want to go. Simples!
