Hi,

I've received Permanemt Residence Card after 5 months waiting with EEA4.
I've thought 'Document Renewal Date' stampted on it means only renewal (like passport renewal) because PRC doesn't have date of expire as kashyme's thoughtful reply.
But South Korean Embassy interprets PRC is not for PERMANENT/INDEFINITE SETTLEMENT.
The point is 'Document Renewal Date'. They told me this card is issued under the promise of marriage status with EEA spouse, I should prove our relationship every 10 years! They insist this is decision made by Home Office.

If our marriage is broken up, do I lose my rights of permanent residency after 10 years? It is not really persuasive cause Home Office itself allow PRC holders to get citizenship after a year!
Does citizenship also have renewal or validation date??!!

Please give me any informations to refute Korean Embassy's interpretation.

non eea could retain residence after 3 years of marriage,if they get divorced after the initial 3 years living with the eea,but never heard of someone who loses his PR because of divorce,death of the eea,ect..!!
what i know is when someone has acquired PR which means he doesn't need his eea to sponsor him anymore,the eea sponsors the non eea citizen for the first 5 years of the initial residence,but after getting the PRC which means from then the non eea citizen is free from immigration control and if he applies for citizenship,its gonna be on his own merit.
as far as i know,when u get a permanent residence card it means u are settled person,u loose your right of PR after a 2 years continuous absence from the uk,and if u want to apply for british citizenship u can do that after holding PR for 12 month ,once you are a british citizen then u are a british citizen,no renewal,just renewing your passport every 5 years,that's all.
this is what i know,i'm sure if i missed something or made an error somewhere,the highly knowledgeable gurus and moderators would address any mistake/comment.

(3) Subject to paragraph (5) and regulation 20(3), a permanent residence card shall be valid for ten years from the date of issue and must be renewed on application.

and paragraph 5 says:

(5) A document certifying permanent residence and a permanent residence card shall cease to be valid if the holder ceases to have a right of permanent residence under regulation 15.
