Application for children

Post by buntosanya » Thu Apr 19, 2007 12:12 pm

Hi all

My husband and myself have been in UK for the past 15 months on HSMP visa. We are now ready to bring in our 5 kids, the oldest is almost 11 years while the youngest is 2years.

Kindly advise on what documents we need to provide to the embassy in my country.

Thanks

Buntosanya,
From your name i presume you intend bringing your children over from Nigeria. You need to provide proof of employment and income in UK.
Most importantly, you need to show proof that you have at least a 4 bedroom apartment to accomodate you and your family.

I applied to bring my five children to UK from lagos in 2003. I made an application for the five of them, but was able to get appointment for only three. The three were granted visas and i brought them over. Few months later, i applied for the other two, they were refused because the ECO stated i needed at least a four bedroom apartment.

According to him, i and my wife would share a room, one room to the girl and the other four boys should share two rooms between them.

I had to instruct my wife to pay almost £2000 to secure another accomodation, the tenancy agreement was faxed over directly to the embassy before the two were issued visas.

Another thing you need to note is that your children must have at least 6months left on their visas when they arrive, if not they would be denied admission to public school.

I had this problem with the last two kids and had to speak to the homeoffice who advised that i apply for visa extension even when i had four months left on my visa. It was only after the extension that the two were admitted to school.

Good luck to you.

Ajani

Thanks so much for your response. Would the fact that they are all boys make any difference to the accommodation requirement. We are actually of the opinion that 3 bedrooms will suffice.

How many months did you have to wait to apply for the other 2? I want to assume that proof of employment include pay slips, bank statements and letter from employer(?).

How much do we need to keep or have in our account in order to get the approval?

Kindly shed more light on this.

Thanks

What evidence did you provide to show that you are living in a four bedroom apartment? and how long did you have to stay in the apartment before you could send the proof?

How many months Bank statement and pay slip do we have to provide?

I am so sorry. I seem to have so many queries.

Thanks

Eh? Would it not be better to post here so everyone can also read this if they need help? Your choice, anyway, but share the love!

Buntosanya....I am thinking the authorities won't want to accept 3 people, albeit all boys, in one room..unless it's as big as Buckingham Palace itself. When they get older, what then? You should look at how your place would qualify under the number of people/room rules.

BTW...how old are they? Ajani - how old were/are your kids, too? I am wondering in terms of schooling.

Doesn't matter what your opinion is, those are the criteria of the accommodation test and unless you adhere to them your application will be refused.

I never wrote you were refusing, didn't mean it that way...

So, is your 17yo planing on further study (uni)? I mean, in terms of what you/they have planned until you get ILR. It's always a lot harder when the kids are older, because studying at uni has so many different Ts & Cs (in terms of tuition fees).

Sorry...I'm just being nosy.

Sakura,
My 17year old will turn 18 in July 2007. We hope to apply for ILR sometimes in March 2008. She intends to attend UNI from September 2008, hopefully she would be able to pay home students fees then. Thanks for your interest.
