Whatever happened to that legendary German efficiency?
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Doesn't exist mate, We found it easier to get through Russian bureaucracy, this is a nightmare!

GF put's UK as by far the easiest to deal with visa-wise etc, but you have to pay for it of course!

At the moment she's sat in Berlin, unable to work because they put the wrong company name in the permit. Hamburg sent it to Bonn, but Berlin say Hamburg should have sent it Berlin. Berlin say they've not got it, but that's ok cos it's Bonn that should have it. Bonn say they've got it, and they process it. Woot. But they need some sort of weird auslandergangenagentstrumbehorde form from the university which we did have, but we sent it to Bonn. So it's there. Somewhere......

In the meantime she's there under some sort of section 3, basically a piece of paper, on which in theory she can come home but we;re too scared too in case we have to endure the Germany Embassy in London again. I feel another arrrgghhh coming on....

So I'm off to Berlin for some R and R tomorrow so there are some benefits! But it also means I'm running around the house for the list of things she wants me to bring, the girl has wardrobes in three countries now. So I'm looking for 'a green top with MNG on the label, with string ties and it's not the one with beads...'

Arghhhhhhh!!

Well, at last we have the WP.

Only six weeks for this one - being in-country is a plus of course. Seems the German caseworkers work on this basis:

1: They do their bit quite promptly

2: Then they just leave it on their desks till someone asks for it.

3: No-one ever asks for it until you phone to enquire and it moves one step!

So, if your in the same position, call them often - it also helps your German skills.

Having said that, the Auslaenderbehoede have only said the WP is ready, whether it will be there or not............

Validity of German residence Permit

Post by ptiwari » Mon May 14, 2007 11:39 am

Hi,

I was granted the German residence Permit in 2003 valid until June 2008.
I did not travel back to Germany since 2004.The residence permit has the name of my employer on the Residence permit.
I am now in the UK since past 18 months, I plan to visit France.
The question is that with the German residence Permit can I enter France or do I need to re-apply for France Visa.

Thanks
Pavan

I think the permit expires when you leave the employer but I could be wrong. Having said that I doubt the French would bother checking so it's one of those decisions!

The German RP is a Schengen visa too so you could use it but i've no idea what checks they might make.

I'll ask the missus in Germany what happened with hers....
