EEA3 requires now comprehensive medical insurance

Hello,

I just read about this on various sites and on the new EEA3 application.

I came to UK on early 2008, I am Greek citizen and I am on receipt of pension from Greece.
The first thing I did is to register with a GP as I have a medical condition that I need meds on daily basis. That time neither the GP or from the NHS (the hospital that the monitor my health) required from me a health insurance/certificate etc from Greece (I am still insured there and the monthly fee is deducted from my pension). I am paying for my meds here using the NHS prescription Prepayment Certificate.

Also, on 2009 I applied (EEA1) and received the registration certificate - the EEA1 did not asked /required for comprehensive medical insurance that time.

Now, I am very confused, about this requirement and I don't know if they refuse me my application EEA3 because of this...

Thank you in advance for any ideas/help.

Did you work at all in the UK?

If you can produce a letter from the health authorities in Greece confirming your cover during the 5 years (or a Greek EHIC), that would meet the CSI requirement.

Alternatively, if you applied in the same category in 2009 (i.e. retired/self sufficient) and did not provide a CSI, you can argue for an exemption as the HO did not ask for it at the time.

BTW - why would you want to apply for PR confirmation? It doesn't give real value to EEA national (unless you plan to apply for BC, bring over a family member or have a smooth passport application for future children).

Thank you sheraz7 for the guide, its very useful.

@Jambo, I don't work in UK as my pension is enough for my living.

I think I will ask my health insurance (state based) in Greece for a letter that I was covered for these 5 years, in fact I m covered at the same health insurance over 40 years...

I also asked for the Greek EHIC card when I decided to move to UK.
I thought I should have this, but they refused to provide one to me, as they told me the EHIC card is not valid when you visit a country in order to stay permanent, it just when you go for short vacations/business trip.

In fact a couple of months ago I read that I should fill (with the Greek health insurance) the from S1 (Registration for healthcare cover) but nobody asked it from me when I came and registered with the NHS (with two different GP's in total and one hospital), not to mention the last time I visited the hospital for my regular examinations, I asked them again about the S1 form and they had no idea at all!

The main reason for the PR is I would like to bring my son in the future with me, as he live with my ex husband abroad.

See the last pages of Registration Certificate applications for accepted CSI. Form S1 would be accepted as such I believe.

I found that NHS is less concerned about eligiblity of people to receive treatment (all those stories about "medical tourism"). On the otherhand, the HO is only concerned of you having CSI. Whether you actually used it or relied entirely on the NHS is not checked by them. As long as you tick the box of CSI, that's fine. An awkward situation, I agree.

Just to update my case there.

I did my application and received the PR status without any questions!

It seems that they accepted the certification from my health insurance office in Greece!!

Congratulations! did your Greece issued health insurance certificate/letter clearly say that you will be medically covered in UK/worldwide.

I visited the office of my health insurance in Athens. My health insurace its the IKA (provides basic public health insurance).
Its nothing special, they just typed a letter that they said I m still insured with them. Then I got an official translation of that paper from the Greek ministry of foreign affairs. (No Apostille stamp was required).

No.. they just mention that I have a valid health insurance, no mention that its valid in UK. (in fact they cover some of the expenses if I have to pay at any public hospital abroad of Greece)
