We are both international students and have just had a baby.
how does this affect our status and the new born? how can we change status here?

Baby is British as I understand it and no it doesn't affect your status at all so no easy way in.

Sorry to be blunt.

Sorry, that's wrong..the baby IS NOT BRITISH unless ONE of the parents is a permanent resident or British Citizen...only then can the child be registered as British.

This means that your child is the mother's and/or father's nationality, and not British. There was a change of law in the early 1980s that made it so that you do not become a citizen based on birth in the UK only. So, kabale, you will need to get a passport from your country (or father's) for your baby, or put the baby on your passport, because the baby isn't eligible for registration as a British Citizen (unless you or the father obtains ILR/BC).

Having a child doesn't change your status, so you will still be international students. Babies have no affect on your stay here. Sorry!

Ooops! I thought if baby is born here it's a Brit regardless, but that in itself confers no right to abode here for parents, wasn't sure so thanks for info!
