Missing invitation to ceremony

Post by Will121 » Mon Jul 08, 2013 8:21 pm

I had a relatively painless application wait: I applied for naturalisation with the help of a solicitor in late May, got a response through my solicitor on the 21st of June dated the 19th returning my documents saying my application had been successful.

However, as of today, I have not received an invitation, and when I called my solicitor on Friday a lady on the phone said they had been shut down by the regulating authority with immediate effect!

I know for a fact that the council has my certificate, but I've been told I can't attend a ceremony without the invitation. For all I know, the invitation is in some pile of paper at the solicitors who no longer exist or trade. :(
Another solicitor has been assigned to be the agent to take care of existing customers files, but they have just fobbed me off as I've tried to call them. As there's no money from me in it for them, they might take months to sort out papers, IF they even have them.

What do I do? Whom do I contact?
The e-mail addresses the UKBA have on previous letters are just auto-responders, and the further queries e-mail hasn't yielded a response. Further, it doesn't seem the UKBA publish any useful phone numbers anywhere visible for me to call.

..so close, yet at the last hurdle I seem to have gone into a bureaucratic black hole, all the while the clock to do the ceremony is ticking away.

Sorry to hear what's going on.

Try emailing the UKBA at this email: NationalityProgress@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

Mention your name, date of birth, address and explain to them what's going on. Maybe they can fax you the letter or send it to the council directly.

Or you can ask the council to get in touch with the UKBA and they could fax the letter to them.

Keep us posted.
