Holiday Query

Post by miss_teacher » Sat Jul 13, 2013 9:14 pm

Hi...I was wondering if anyone could advise me please. My husband is an Indian national and is currently on a spousal Uk visa. We are wanting to organise a holiday abroad, possibly to Europe and I don't know whether he needs to apply for a visa for that country or whether he can travel on the basis of his uk visa. For example, say we went to Spain,I could travel without a visa as I am an EU citizen. However, as he is not, would he need a visa for Spain or could he travel without on the basis that he has a uk visa? I would appreciate any help with this. Many thanks in advance!

He will need a visa for Spain or any European country where he would usually need a visa for and will have to apply before traveling.

UK Spouse visa does not fall under EU citizen regulations.

Assuming you are British, then if you are travelling together, the Schengen visa should be issued free of charge.

Thanks both, that's really helpful. Jambo...how do we apply for the Schengen visa? Is it as complicated as taking loads of documents to an embassy or is it issued differently? Many thanks

For full details check the website of the consulate you plan to travel to but in general family of EEA national enjoy from a simple (and free) process namely marriage certificate and passports is all that is required.
