Visa extension

I am currently waiting for my visa to study masters. i have been here for 6 yrs now (2yrs Alevels, 3yrs undergrad, 1yr masters). I want to do a phd which will last 3yrs. Will I be granted a visa extension

I think no, coz the maximum period you can spend on student visa is 8 years and your total will be 9 years.
