TRANSIT VISA

Quick question.
My husband was granted a visa to Ireland under EU Treaty Rights unfortunately from where he is traveling there are no direct flights to Ireland, he would have connection flight in London Heathrow, 2hrs waiting time.
Does he need to apply for transit visa?
I appreciate your help.

As long as he does not intend on coming out of Heathrow, he should be fine.

It may depend on his nationality. Getting to Ireland via the UK essentially means passing through immigration control.

Egypt is a country covered under the DATV system.

Given the information provided, your husband would not need a visa to transit the UK, however the final decision is dependant on the discretion of the border officers once he has arrived at the airport.

I think you are not correct.

You cannot transit the UK airside if you are on your way to or from the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

Plus whoever has given you the information from worldbridge is totally wrong and confused. Egypt is on the list. But UKBA is saying, that whoever is NOT on the list does not need transit visa. Whoever gave you info actually thought that whoever is on the list does not need transit visa.

Plus everyday there are a few dozen flights from cairo to dublin via frankfurt, paris, munich, amsterdam and istanbul etc. These flights are cheaper than the flights connecting at UK airports.

Why take the headache of going through UK airports?

He is flying from CYPRUS and get to Ireland he needs to take either British Airways or Lufthansa, Lufthansa is asking for 900 euro for one way when BA is just half price of Lufthansa.

God knows where your husband has been looking for tickets. Tickets available for those dates left right and centre for £250-300 and avoiding UK airports.

You can get a gold plated seat for £900

Also please be warned that buying anything in Ireland is not advisable at all. Even if you want to buy a tray of eggs, you will be better off driving to NI. If someone likes to drink guiness, then they are better off going to UK and buying guiness. In Ireland they might demand something like 50 euros for a can.

OK 480 euros and about 62 euros transit visa fee = 542 euros.

If you send me just 500 euros, I will get him a ticket to Dublin from Larnaca. He will not have the hassle of applying a UK tranist visa (which may even get refused).

Plus I will make a little profit by spending just 10 minutes.
