Drink drive impact on citizenship

Post by Staind » Mon Jul 22, 2013 8:51 pm

Hi,

My boyfriend has been caught in drink drive offence, the stupidest mistake ever. His breath test reading was 51 and has been on bail for 6week until he gets his result for urine test.

He is an Asian and he will be eligible for British passport early next year. Will this offence have major impact on his application. Is there a chance he can still get the citizenship?

Please help...any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Depends if he's convicted. See the good character FAQ (click)

Thanks Amber for your prompt reply.

Most likely he wont be allowed to drive for 12 months (with rehab option possibly) and fine.

In that case, will he be able to apply for citizenship or he will have to wait for another 10 years till the charges become void :(

Thanks in advance.
Appreciate it!!

10 years? Did you read the FAQ? It's 3 years for a non custodial conviction. No point in applying until he has a verdict as to whether or not he's prosecuted.

What if you haven't paid parking tickets?
Be good.

I have paid the parking ticket. I think we don't have any choice but to wait and watch until the results come out.

Parking tickets? We are on about drink driving and a possibly conviction, parking tickets are the least of any concerns.

I would like to ask if I have an ILR and during that period I get caught for drink and drive. I have completed my 9 month of driving ban and also completed the rehibilation course offered to me. Is it now ok to apply for British passport Or do I have to wait for 3 years?

Thanks in advance

Have you actually been convicted as above you were saying you were waiting for a trial?

If convicted and the sentence was non-custodial, you must wait 3 years.
