MN1 Registration Query regarding Referee

Post by Tier1toILR » Sat Aug 03, 2013 12:26 am

Hello,

Wondering if someone can urgently help me with referee to be added to MN! form for my son?

My son is only 1year and 5 months, so he still doesn't go to the school.

As part of the application, MN1 says that Referee 1 should be the person who knows him professionally, like teacher, doctor, etc.

I went to my GP and they mentioned they will do it for £30. And to my surprise when I went there today to get it signed, they said Home Office no longer accepts GP as reference and redirected me to following link:
https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications

From above page, they highlighted following two points:
1. GP's name no longer features in the list.
2. Person should be known personally and not just professionally. Quote from link above herewith:
(not just someone who knows them professionally)
Appreciate your help.

P.S.: I and my wife, both, received ILR 2 weeks back and son born in the UK.

Thanks.

I think the link you mentioned here is for passport application not for MN1 referees

for MN1 entitlement the referee rules are the same

but please double check it

Thanks wmazhar,

My problem is that GP is not ready to sign it based on above information.

It will be so great if anyone can confirm the same, especially with their experience.

Thanks.

Section 5 - referees and identity

Any application for a child must be supported by two referees and a recent passport-sized photograph.

The photograph should be clipped or stapled to the space provided. The photograph must show the whole of the child's face. It should not be covered by their hair (except a beard, sideburns or a moustache), a scarf or traditional dress. They should not be wearing dark glasses, a hat, a hood, a cap or a scarf.

One referee should have known the child personally and have been their doctor, teacher, health visitor, social worker, or minister of religion. The other referee must be a holder of a British citizen passport. He/she must be either a professional person or over the age of 25. See the list of Acceptable professional persons. Each referee must not be related to the child, or to the other referee. He/she should not be acting as a solicitor or agent in connection with the application and should not be employed by the Home Office.

Thanks z18runway for your reply.

I spoke to my council today and mentioned that I'll be getting a signature of a Health Care Assistance, one of my friend who knows my son, as Referee 1 and second is my colleague who also knows us personally.

Your quote from the section is correct, however, GP is not ready to accept that and have redirected me to the same link, for the list of acceptable jobs by a referee and pointed that Doctors no longer exist in that list :(

Thanks.
