future intentions requirement

Post by Twilight0778 » Tue Aug 27, 2013 8:47 pm

Hi

I am now eligible to apply for british citizenship (ILR holder + 1 year). However, I have recently also receive permanent resident status in Canada which I have applied a couple of years before.

I intend to continue to live and work in the UK and make it as my main home. Will having a Canadian PR stamp affect my application for british citizenship?

No, it will not affect British Citizenship application. Have you just received a Canadian visa in your passport or you have done your landing as well?

Yes, I have done my landing, that is why I am not sure of how it will impact application. Thanks

It will not affect your application, as you do not have to disclose anywhere that you have PR for another country. Its just future intention, who know what will happen in future.

Thanks for response. However, there is a copy of the immigration visa within the passport. I think they do get a photocopy of the passport as well.

Is there any similar situation in the past. I tried searching from other forums for similar topics but i can't seem to find a search facility within the website.

Yes there will be visa in your passport, that is single entry visa and it would have been crossed out with black marker when you landed. That visa doesn't state weather its PR or visitor.

UKBA will need your full passport copy, and having that visa is not a problem.

Hi- thanks for your response. Just checked the visa. It is indicated an Immigrant visa, rather than visitor. Thanks for your help.

You will not face any problem. There are many people who has got British Citizenship even after having PR for Canada, Australia, New Zealand, US etc. Having PR is altogether different issue than having citizenship.
