child benefit

Post by zaza7625 » Thu Aug 22, 2013 7:05 am

Hi.
I would like to know how long child benefit needs to be granted after having filled out an application, 'cos there is no timeframe mentioned on welfare.ie.

Thanks

Assuming that you will provide all requested documents
- original birth cert, translated and apostilled
- letter from employer stating what kind of contribution you are paying
- proof of address
- letter from nursery/school or doctor that your child is in fact in the State
- your pps number and pps for child

I got my decision in 1 month time after submitting form and requested docs

Hi Meleryan

One month is great! According to the link below it can take up to 31 weeks to be paid.

We have been waiting about 6 weeks. I think part to the problem is that the Mother is the non-EU national and the Father is the EU national. Since the government normally pay CB to the Mother my wife had to fill out a Habitual Residency form and many other documents.

In your case is the Mother or Father the non-EU national?

I am not TOO worried about the CB in our case (although 30 quid a week is very handy) what really concerns us is that our son cannot receive a medical card until he receives CB. The Health Exec informs us that the medical card is waiting for when he receives CB.

If the Mother is the EU citizen in your case I may make a claim as the Father stating gender equality laws.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

I would also be interested in your experience and who is the EU national/non-national and the time it takes to issue the CB to you.

Father is non EU.

Letter from the Doctor is the easiest and quickest way, you go to any surgery declare that your kids will attend this surgery and he or she will issue the letter.

You can always call them to follow up on your application

Hi Latin Traveller,

If I recall correctly you passed the habitual residence test for jobseekers. That means your wife is habitually resident as a wife is expected to live with her husband and takes her rights from his rights, so it does not matter which one of you applied for the child benefit. I would recommend that you e-mail welfare and explain that the medical card is urgently needed and cannot be granted until you get the child benefit. Ask for the child benefit to be moved to the top of the queue due to the medical card issue. Use e-mail and cc a senior TD on the e-mail.

Hi Zaza7625,

Apply for the pps number for each child (you will need their birth cert or passport) as soon as possible when you arrive in Ireland. Then apply for child benefit. It would be good if you had your first payslip for either parent and added this to your application for child benefit, as the child of an employed worker automatically meets the habitual residence condition, so the payslip is used to give proof that you pass the habitual residence, which is the only condition that you need to meet.

Personally speaking I would save the cost of the doctor's letter and walk all of the kids into the social welfare office, and get an offical there to write a letter saying Mr and Mrs Zaza were here today with 4 kids and I would use that as proof the kids are in Ireland. It would be free and the doctor will cost 50 euro.

Hi Bridget,
We were emailed on Thursday and informed that we are shortly to receive CB and the medical card. The CB will be backdated until April (although we only applied in July). This is a nice boost to the finances as we wait for FIS (which we also applied for in July but has been referred to a local office as I am self employed).

Hope you do not have to wait too much longer.
A Polish friend of mine who has three children was also informed that he and his wife will receive back pay on theirs until February (€3000 in their case). It does usually work out eventually.
