Spouse/partner visa

Post by Andrew0603 » Wed Sep 04, 2013 3:07 pm

Hi guys,

Newbie here so please be gentle. Sorry if what I'm going to ask has been asked a million times before but I just don't know where to start looking!

Ok, I need some advice on applying for the spouse visa. My wife will be applying soon once she has passed the english language exam.

We first met in kiev on the 13th February and got married on the 23rd July. We are currently staying together here in ukraine at her dads place, she is also 20 weeks pregnant. The first query I have is should we put on the application form that she is pregnant? I feel like they might refuse the visa until I can prove I am the father, which would have to be done after the baby is born! Now we both really want the baby to be born in England (although that is out of our hands).

With regards to the financial stuff, we are doing this based on my savings as I am not currently working, is this any better than income based or is there no difference? Also do I need to get statements from my bank or will they accept statements printed off from my account online?

I own my own home, do we need to send any documents proving I own it or just write in the application form that its mine?

The last question I have (for now!!!) we need to show that our relationship is genuine, are they after photos of us together? Or is there something else we need do do? They will obviously want the original marriage cert, but this is in Ukrainian, should we put in a translated copy too?

Sorry for so many questions, I just want to make sure the application is done right. From the info I have given so far, does it sound like this should be a fairly (in theory) straight forward process? Or could we be in for a long journey?

Any help would be fantastic

I have no idea, I have looked on the UKBA website and cannot find anything. All I can tell you is that we will be applying for the bog standard spouse visa (if that makes any sense). For the next few years at least she would essentially be a housewife, so not looking for work just yet.

This is all new to me so apologies for the vague answer

That's fine providing its in a recognised financial institution and you have the required specified evidence, online statements should only be used in cases where the account is purely an online account. You can provide a copy of the land registry document showing you own the home. Yes a translated copy of the marriage certificate.

Out of curiosity, with you are saying you're close to EU countries, have you been working in an EU Country, not UK?

No I have not been working in any EU countries. I'm aware of the surinder Singh case and did contemplate going down that route, but felt it would be better just going for the visa. Hopefully less hassle in the long term.

On a side note, does anyone know of anywhere in Ukraine that does the english language test? We are having so much trouble trying to find somewhere that does the A1 level test other than the British council, we have just missed their deadline for the test on 13th Sept and next one is not till the end of October. They did say we could do the ielts test but I'm not sure if she would get the score needed in that one.

Try http://www.s2a.com.ua/en/ though make sure they offer an approved test.
