Dvla request for passport

My friend was ask to send her passport to dvla.she is applying for provisional drivers licience..and they said it take 3weeks for them to send back the passport...does dvla contact home office/ukba to check the identity.and why does it take that long

do you think you are the only person applying.. ?

If they want they can check.. not sure if they do

Yes she is the only person applying.and why will it take 3weeks for them to send it back

what the other person is saying is: SHE IS NOT the only person applying, thousands of applications are processed daily.

if you need to save time and do not want to give passport to DVLA you can go to DVLA office in Wimbledon and process your application same day that way they will verify the passport and give it back to you and licence will follow by post within two weeks...
