Standard vs Shortage Occupation list

Post by prajwal87 » Tue Sep 10, 2013 7:59 am

Hi,

I will be applying for Entrepreneur Visa 50k PSW Route. I have a little confusion regarding, The Standard Occupation list and Shortage occupation list.

My area is in Visual FX, specifically compositing. I have checked through the Standard occupation list but cannot find the job description anywhere. However I have matched it exactly in Shortage occupation list as a Compositing artist. My question is that does this come under NQF Level 4 and above? I have a MA Degree in vfx from Bournemouth University which describes the course being NVQ Level 7. Therefore what I would like to know is can i apply as a Compositing artist with a SOC (Shortage occ List) ?

Appreciate any feedback on this .. Thanks in Advance

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/polic ... appendixj/

This link is for Appendix J which is to define your business and trading activity according to immigration rules. Once searching out your category and related level (Which should be equal or above than level 4) search your category and related qualifications and job title from SOC 2010 Vol 1 and SOC 2010 Vol 2.
This the way to workout on your role.

Qualification level 7 and Shortage occupation list has nothing to do with Tier 1 Ent. Visa for PSWs. Even HO donot stress on Qualification type and Business category to be same. All they have some magical 'Genuine Entrepreneur Test' which maybe interprets like 'What They Understand, They Do'. This test sometimes convert grey areas of application to white and unfortunately white areas of application to grey. Hope you get it.

Thanks RizKCB..

My Soc does not appear in the following link

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... orkers.pdf

However it appears here.. (Soc 3421)

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... tnov11.pdf

It Also appears on Soc Vol 2 but unclear if its above LEVEL 4. I hope this is more clearer information.

Refer to above link and search 3421. You will find clearly that 3421 is at level 3 and story ends. You are not eligible under this role to apply for T1 Entrepreneur visa under provision d (PSW to T1 Ent). You will have to define yourself in better role. Why dont you consider 3411?

Do not refer shortage occupation list. Shortage occupation list is Only for Tier 2. Yes if you look for Tier 2 (work permit) for role 3421 then it would be easier for you.

Hope you get an idea.

need a little clarification on this RizKCB :)

just a quick question. Before applying for psw 50k route. Is it ok to be self employed in a NQF level 3 job? (Graphic designer SOC 3421) However my services for the T1 application will be above NQF 4.
