Renewing Indian passport by post

Hello,

I'm trying to renew my Indian passport at High Commission of India, London, by post.

They are asking to send the current passport with a valid visa.

I have a Tier 1 (General) visa till Dec 2014 but my passport only has the visa sticker valid up to 2012, since after that they stopped issuing visa sticker and started issuing Residence Permit cards instead.

Does anyone know if I should send the original Residence Permit card along with the passport or just a photocopy?

Re-issue of Passport on expiry or up to one year before expiry (having a valid Visa)

A new Passport can be issued on the expiry, or up to one year before expiry of any Passport which had an initial validity of 10 years.
Requirements

Application form completely filled in and signed.

4 (four) Passport size (35 mm x 45 mm) identical photographs showing frontal view of full face with white background.

The current or recently expired Passport having valid Visa or Residence Permit is required to be enclosed along with photocopies of detail pages and Visa. In case the latest Passport is additional booklet(s) issued to the original Passport, the additional booklet(s) plus the original Passport must be furnished.

That is exactly why I asked. The passport does not actually carry the Residence Permit any longer as it's now issued as a separate card. Obviously Indian High Commission being what it is, they haven't updated their instructions to accommodate the change.

Sending the BRP or a certified copy should be fine.

I think sending the original would be wiser. Certified means certified by a solicitor or notary public.

Hi sban,
are you going to send the photo copy of each and every page of the passport of your kid? as it was mentioned as "equired to be enclosed with photocopies of detail pages and Visa"
please clear my confusion

I'm renewing my passport not my child's.

Update: I've just been returned my application and asked to provide additional documents:
- marriage certificate and copy
- spouse's original passport and copy of photo page

What my marriage certificate and spouse's passport have to do with my passport renewal when I'm the Tier 1 visa holder, god alone knows!
