British Passport - return of supporting documents

Post by Kkumar949 » Thu Oct 03, 2013 10:21 pm

Hi there,

How long does it typically take for the return of supporting documents if you are applying for your first passport by post? The website states 6 weeks for the entire process but not when they return documents.

In particular, do you know if October / November is a busy time for applications?

Will be great to know your experience.

Cheers

Kumar,

Do you have copies of your the passport that your surrendered?

Also when you surrendered did you keep copies of the surrender application and did they give you any acknowledgement?

The above could hold the key to your First British Passport application.

I was in the impression that surrender means consulate will cut the corners, put cancelled stamp and return the passport.

Dear Neoseal,

I was under the same impression too. Not sure what happened here. Maybe others who surrendered their passport can share their experience.

Thanks for your advice. I do have copies of my old passport but not the original! Unfortunately i did not keep a copy of my surrender receipt.

It just feels weird that now that I've taken up British citizenship I do not have access to a passport because of this technicality!

Do you know if I can just submit my copies? The application documents talks about submitting the originals only!
