Questions on the YMS (Canadian)

Post by TristanF » Fri Jan 11, 2013 4:21 am

Hello all,

New to the forums but hoping I could get some advice about travelling to the UK under the YMS. Does anyone know how quickly the quota of 5500 Canadian spots fill up in the year? As well, I am not entirely sure when I would like to move to the UK, does it activate as soon as I land in the UK or as soon as they issue it to me after the time I apply?

Thanks

Hey

I just finished my YMS visa - I don't believe they usually full their quota - when are you looking to go? The UKBA publishes the processing times and the number of decisions made for each Worldbridge office online.

The visa is active according to the date on your application and on the visa itself. When I did mine 2 years ago, it asked when would you like to travel to the UK. You could request up to 3 months out - I applied for my visa in May 2011 and requested my visa be postponed to Aug 2011. The woman at the visa office wrote a note requesting the postponement of my visa as there is no guarantee they will allow it. They allowed mine to go through.

If you are granted Tier 5 leave (outside the UK) you can't, later, switch into Tier 4. You will have to leave the UK to apply for leave to enter.
