Long Term Indian Visa for Minor Child , What is the max stay

Post by kiranchinnu » Sat Nov 16, 2013 8:34 pm

Hi all ,

i have searched for answer for this question but cant find any topic so positing . if there is any other post on topic pls direct me there.

I have child who is 16 months old with British Passport and we had taken 5 year long term visa for the child as we needed to visit India in emergency . And child returned back after couple of months that time. Child now left with 4 and 1/2 years visa . Now child left to India three weeks back and for sure this time visit will btw 7 months to 1year. My questions are :

1. Is child allowed to stay more than 180 days ? ( have read that minor's can stay more than 180 days but was unable to bookmark that website at that moment)

2. Is registration necessary for the child at nearest police station?

Thanks in advance.

Long term X visa holders can stay long term upto 5 years. Adults however need to register if their stay exceeds 180 days. Minors (under 16 year) are exempted from registration.

Thank you very much for the kind reply.
So , I take the my child's visa is Long Term X visa, X replacing 5year ,am I right?. But on the visa there is a endorsement saying that "Max Stay 180 days" . This confuses me a lot.

X is a type of visa (Normally Entry visas are known as X visa, OCI is U category visa)

see all different visa categories here
http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlinePr ... saServices

Not all long term visas come with endorsements. (check Page 1 point d of the Foreigners Registration link mentioned above) If there is an endorsement that limits stay upto 180 days then I am afraid stay beyond 180 days may not be permitted.
