On ILR - just married UK citizen - Query re best path

Post by FingerBoneBill » Wed Nov 20, 2013 11:47 am

Hi,

I was granted UK ILR (via 5+ years of prior working in UK) on 22 Jan 2013 and am planning to apply for British citizenship on the 23rd Jan 2014 (have spent less than 90 days outside the UK).

however...

Earlier this month (November 2013) I married my fiance, a UK citizen. We have (only) been together since the start of 2013.

Question: Being I am now married to a UK citizen, am I eligible to apply for UK citizenship now?

Any advice on whether I should apply for citizenship in my own right, or via my spouse would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks

Yes, as long as you also meet all the other requirements.
