Help needed, EU national bankruptcy

Post by kimat » Tue Dec 10, 2013 10:59 pm

Hello, thanks for taking the time. I am an EU national residing in the UK for almost 5 years and now am about to be declared bankrupt because of financial problems. I also intend to apply for permanent residence in the next few months.
My question is what would the effect of bankruptcy be on my permanent residence application when I file for it? I need to get that status so as to be able to apply for British citizenship for my non-EEA family members citizenship in the future. Would bankruptcy have any impact on my citizenship process as we'll?
Thanks for responding, all advice and viewpoints are appreciated.

I have been looking at my options and since my debts are below 15K, I might go for a Debt Relief Order. How would that affect my prospects? Any help, information or advice is truly appreciated. Thanks.

Bankruptcy will affect your ability to secure British Citizenship, but not Permanent Residence Certificate. That right is automatically acquired.

You non-EEA family member could secure British Citizenship independently of you.
