EEA requirement for Indian parents of a UK citizen.

Post by sambasu » Mon Jun 25, 2007 2:11 pm

Hi,

I am a British Citizen, leaving in UK. My parents are Indian citizen and leaving in India. I wish to call them to UK regularly(like once a year for 3-4 months). They have been to UK once in 2003 for 3 months in visiotr visa. Do they qualify for EEA Family Permit?

What are the requirement to get a EEA Family permit for them?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Samujjwal Basu

No, you have to be an EU citizen exercising treaty rights by living/working/studying in another EU State to avail yourself of the EEA Family Permit conveniences...

Hi Wanderer,
Thanks for quick reply. Do the parents of a British citizen get any special benifit in terms of Visa? Because I was told that first they have apply for a 1 year multiple entry visa (with max stay of 6 month at any one stay) and then only they will be granted with 5 years visa.

Thanks again for your reply.

There's no special benefit in fact it might work the other way, in the eyes of the HO, ur parents may be more likely to try and settle in the UK cos live here.

The six months max say is not a good idea either nowadays, HO say VV is for visits, not effectively living here for six months. I;d say and month or six weeks max so as not to arouse suspicion at the airport....

It's a shame HO don't have a 'Family Visit Visa' for close family, say a open visa, for frequent two week visits. I'd agree with HO that staying here on a VV for six months is pushing the term 'visit' to it's extreme.

Also a 'Prospective Partner Visa' would be good, for the Internet-Girlfriend crowd. Six months multi-entry, the sponsor fully liable for his inamorata's actions and their consequences, the HO fully understanding it's not a visit visa and it's not a marriage of convenience or a rushed engagement. And it would 3000 quid, 2000 refunded on marriage or on the inamorata being despatched home as 'unsuitable'. That would kibosh the silly sods who marry a girl after three months MSN messaging....
